The Chianti area

In the fourteenth century, at the time of the great poet Dante Alighieri, the wines of Chianti and the hills sloping down, on the left bank, towards the Arno valley were the most prized and appreciated by the aristocracy of the Florentine Republic.
In Chianti and the surrounding areas wine production boasts ancient and noble origins. An agricultural tradition, begun in Etruscan times, which finds objective evidence in documents of the 14th century. But not only wine speaks to us the "heart" of Tuscany, but also art, culture, hospitality and good food. The hilly landscapes of Chianti continue to fascinate travellers and tourists: villages, castles and ancient abbeys are a must for those who want to combine environmental beauty with history.

Once upon a time our lands were cultivated with promiscuous productions. the main product for sustenance were cereals and legumes, while wine and oil were the pride and pride of the families.  The Bigazzi Family's love and passion for wine has been able to transform wheat into pasta making art and the promiscuous cultivation of vineyards into specialized cultivation, planting modern vineyards but respecting traditional varieties, such as SANGIOVESE, CANAIOLO NERO, MALVASIA LUNGA DEL CHIANTI, MERLOT, COLORINO and CABERNET SAUVIGNON that, thanks to the perfect microclimate and the necessary technical knowledge, have allowed the production of fine wines with those ancient vines that have been able to adapt to the soil and climate of this area.

In Castellina in Chianti, visiting the Etruscan tombs you can relive the magical atmosphere of the first vine growers in this region. But the itineraries are really many: you can discover the castles scattered in the territory of Gaiole in Chianti, let yourself be captured by the charm of the historical centre of Greve or by the beauty of the countryside surrounding Radda. You will be spoilt for choice.

Lovers of good food can discover the secret of Tuscan flavours in typical restaurants or in the now numerous cooking schools: the "cinta senese" cold cuts, the "zolfino" bean of Valdarno, up to the rustic but superlative "pici".

They are often poor recipes born from a rural subsistence economy that has characterized the Tuscan countryside for centuries. The culinary tradition of this geographical area is great and the historical memories of each country hand down some typical dishes, dishes that hide a history to discover and listen to... sipping a good glass of wine.
